Trends in Movies

as written by Ford Sukamto, Account Executive, Precision Language

There was once a time where Indonesian movie enthusiasts (focusing on Jakarta people) stopped going to cinemas due to lack of good movies in big screens and tickets were just too pricy, however the good old days seemed far from over as Hollywood started to create strings of blockbuster epic series such as the reborn of Indiana Jones 4, The Mummy Dragon Emperor and Die Hard 4. The inclusion of creating sci-fi or fictions; superheroes from popular comics such as the Transformer, Spiderman and recently Ironman was ingenious and not forgetting the remakes of old favorite heroes such as batman and superman.

Blockbuster movies of 2008

With the blend of imaginations and desperation to attract new generation of movie goers, this formula seems to work out pretty well as statistics shown that enthusiasts would pay and queued up on long lines of crowds just to catch a glimpse of their favorite characters come alive in the big screen. The sudden boom of new era movie goers has evolved traditional cinemas into megaplexes and cheaper ticket prices (during weekdays) and has called in for the demand to facelift cinematic facilities such as modern minimalist concepts, comfy seating, dynamic screen and sound qualities as well as value added service catering customers with snacks servers who would serve your needs anytime during the movie. One such example is the XXI cinema franchise.

As a movie enthusiast like myself, I found that this dynamic evolution in the cinematic business has brought good value for money for patrons as décor and comfort surroundings within the megaplex is as important as inside the theater rooms itself. What I quite like about the new look in modern cinemas are the ticketing area where plasma or LCD TVs are used for ads and upcoming movie trailer screenings to keep queuing patrons occupied while the waiting area are as cozy as you get the feeling of being indulge by the warmth sensation created by the decorations and its friendly looking environment that truly is amazing. I for sure do think my 25,000Rp (weekend rates) per ticket is money well-spent.

Think Before Moving Jobs

as written by Amrit Vijay Vaswani, Account Executive – Group Marketing & Creative Services

Changing jobs can be the most stressful and annoying process that people go through, and yet most of us change jobs 7 to 10 times during our careers. It’s true to say that most of us sometime come to the conclusion that our job isn’t suiting our needs and that changing jobs would be a good idea. Is it a good idea though? Not only is it stressful but you may just end up worse than before. You may think it is an exciting endeavor, but it brings a lot of “what-ifs”. What if the new boss is a pain in the butt? What if they don’t like your ideas or even you as a person? What if you fail? What if the company decides to lay off and the new employees are the first to go? There can be many questions and you really can’t be sure of a whole lot.

Before you move on you need to take some time off and list the reasons for moving on and see if you can fix it. If you are unsure of your reasoning for seeking a new job, check out some of the reasons why people take the leap:

Job Dissatisfaction
This is probably the number one reason why people leave one job for another. If your job is not fulfilling and you are not happy than find a job that really fulfills you. But first find out its cause and work with your employer to improve your current situation. For instance if you are dissatisfied with your current job because you are constantly under stress may be its best to take a couple day’s off just to blow of steam and when you get back tell your boss about the situation and try to work something out.

Job Burnout
Burnout is a terrible thing! May be it’s because your job is repetitive or routine or may be you’re just bored because you have been doing this too long. A good way to solve this is probably to make a lateral move to another position within your current employers. You might well have a good reputation where you are currently, and that is something that takes a long time to acquire. May be your boss can loan you to a different department for six months or even rotate you through different jobs just to keep your job fresh and interesting.

More Money
Money is good incentive to keep one motivated and happy on the job. If you feel that you are underpaid why not bring it up politely to your supervisor and see you can get an adjustment. In the end if despite your efforts you can’t get a raise than may be you should think about other options.

In need of a new challenge
There might be nothing wrong with your current job but it may be that you just need a new challenge. Before you move on see if there is management training or job diversification if your company. You could even volunteer for extra projects just to show that you can handle more responsibility.

Its important to put In an effort to make it work before you decide to leave. If despite your efforts you feel that your current job can’t provide what you are looking for or you can’t see you’re self with the company in the foreseeable future than its better to resign respectfully and look for another job. But what ever you choose make sure you continuously update your skills, pay attention to what’s happening in your industry and continuously expand your networks as this will play a role in helping you get your future jobs.

How to Motivate Your Boss

Until recently, almost all writings on motivation were designed to give the manager techniques to motivate his or her staff. It was assumed that motivation was a one-way street that runs from top to bottom. The same thing used to be thought of communication, until someone discovered that it was a two-way street. The new thinking says that employees should be concerned about motivating their bosses, and should not take a passive role toward this issue. But how do you motivate your boss?

Here are some of the most effective ways:

1- TAKE THE INITIATIVE: Don’t wait for your boss to “give” you work. Find out what needs to be done and suggest to your boss that you do it.

2- GENERATE NEW IDEAS: Think of better ways to do the work in your area and outside of your area too, and tell your boss about it.

3- OFFER YOUR HELP:
Your boss needs your support and help. Show her that you’re there to provide full support.

4- ASK YOUR BOSS TO DELEGATE: Your boss might not be aware that you are ready to assume more responsibilities and take on new challenges. Ask the boss to delegate responsibilities you think you can take on.

5- OFFER SOLUTIONS: Don’t limit your contacts with the boss to the times you bring up a problem or a request for help. Bosses need to hear solutions, not just problems.

6- OFFER COMPLIMENTS: The boss is human. She needs to receive compliments when she does something truly outstanding, or when she helps you in a positive way. Don’t worry that it might sound insincere. Compliments, done in good taste and for a good reason, are always appreciated as long as you don’t over do it.

7- SHOW COMMITMENT: It’s important for the boss to know that you care about your work, about the organization, and about the boss. Show that you care, in words and in action. Go out of your way to provide good service and promote the company, and the department’s name.

8- STAY POSITIVE: Employees who talk and act in a negative way can depress people around them, including the boss. It’s important for your own mental health and for that of others that you stay positive and enthusiastic. Try saying “Thank God It’s Monday” instead of the usual “Friday” reference. But it’s a matter of your general attitude, not just what you say. If you want a positive relationship with your boss, be positive yourself.
